Lending a Helping Hand – and Tow Trucks – to Hurricane Harvey Recovery

AAA Colorado to send three trucks, three technicians, and 20,000 bottles of water to aid in clean-up

DENVER (September 12, 2017) – With Hurricane Harvey’s record-breaking flood waters receding, the greater Houston area’s long road to recovery begins with the removal of the tens of thousands of flooded cars, trucks, and other vehicles scattered across the region’s roadways and driveways.

To assist in that effort, AAA Colorado and its wholly owned subsidiary, Pacesetter Roadside Assistance, have dispatched three trucks and three roadside assistance technicians to Houston. There, they’ll aid in hurricane cleanup by towing flood-damaged vehicles to wherever their owners want them – either repair shops, salvage yards, or insurance assessors where they can receive a check and begin to rebuild their lives.

“As one of Colorado’s largest not-for-profit organizations, community service informs everything that we do,” AAA Colorado President and CEO Linda Cavanagh said. “When AAA Texas put out the call to AAA clubs nationwide to assist with recovery in the wake of Hurricane Harvey, we knew we had to step up and lend a hand. It’s what we do.”

Roadside technicians Tracy Weickum, Matthew Steffan, and Ray Vigil will join forces with more than 50 other drivers and 54 trucks from AAA clubs around the country to do what they do best: Help others. In tow, the technicians are hauling nearly 20,000 bottles of water that will be distributed to Hurricane Harvey’s victims in partnership with AAA Texas. The water was donated by several AAA Approved Automotive Repair facilities: Stang Auto Tech in Broomfield, Pellman’s Automotive Service and Haglin Automotive from Boulder, and Arvada’s Colchin Automotive.

Weickun, Steffan, and Vigil will spend next month in the Houston roadside rotation before returning home. AAA Colorado and Pacesetter Roadside Assistance stand ready to activate additional resources should the need arise. Emergency roadside service for Colorado members will not be affected.
