Winter paradise ▲

David Noe of Paonia submitted this photo by email of the Skyline Trail while snowshoeing in Grand Mesa. “My girlfriend, Jo Ann, and I find Grand Mesa to be one of our favorite winter destinations. It’s uncrowded, usually has abundant snowfall, and there are wonderfully maintained cross-country ski and snowshoe trails. It’s truly a winter paradise,” Noe tells EnCompass. “It was perfect day to explore the mesa, and on the way back to the trailhead I noticed a storm rolling in. The changing weather made for a captivating scene and some intriguing photo opportunities. I used the Silvertone setting on my cell phone to give the snow and clouds this silvery sheen.” His camera: iPhone 6. Member since: 2014

Lesson learned ▼

Tana Lawler of Golden submitted this photo by email of her family cross-country skiing at Cottonwood Lake. “My husband, Patrick, and I were trying to convince our 7-year-old-son, Forrest, that snow sports are a great way to explore the great outdoors,” Lawler tells EnCompass. “This area offered a quiet, scenic, and reasonably simple back-country forest road for us to introduce him to a longer, yet enjoyable, ski. We toured through the campground, willow fields, and the lake before making snow angels and an ice sliding area on the lakeshore.” Her camera: iPhone 11. Member since: 2019
