Summer blooms ▲

Claire Chomiak of Castle Rock submitted this photo by email while hiking near Boreas Pass. “My husband, Alan, and I spend a lot of time during the summers visiting our son in Frisco,” Chomiak told EnCompass. “It’s a great place for nature lovers, like us. Every year, we hike the upper area of Boreas Pass, and I’ve always noticed this flower, Arnica, in bloom.”  Her camera: Nikon COOLPIX P100. Member since: 2016

Lisa Chang of Berthoud submitted this photo by email of her son preparing to sled down the dunes at the Great Sand Dunes National Park. “My husband and I backpacked the dunes over a decade ago, and said if we ever had kids, we would bring them back to experience the solitude, grandeur, and thrill of sledding by moonlight,” Chang told EnCompass. “I was admiring the beauty of the dunes in the morning light—their dynamic depth and shadows—when my son happened walk by, enjoying another successful sled run.” Her camera: Nikon COOLPIX.
